At the last count I have 5 devices at home that connect to the internet. I am planning to add a smart TV, a play station and a new home theater – all of which will connect to the net. I have always been fascinated with internet of things, only now am I seeing it becoming a reality. Eventually I think all the major equipment of my house will be on the net. May be I can start my air conditioner by searing an email or I can chat with my cooking system to cook remotely. All this seems in the realm of SciFi but now it is all feasible.

At a home level it might sound a tab bit silly but imagine the benefit internet of things can have for farming, supply chain management and manufacturing. That is where information systems will also play big role. New technologies will emerge for this and a new approach is also needed to look at information in this context.
